WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF MOTO CROSS You have selected this page because you are new to the sport of MX (Moto Cross) or may be you are an experienced Mxer and just fancied a look around the site. Okay let's start at the very beginning, before you buy a bike take some time
to go and watch a few local meetings. Walk around the paddock (pits), this is
where you will find the riders, look at their set up car & trailer, van, van
& caravan or huge motor home. You do not need a brand new bike to start in MX but one in a little bit better condition than this one would be better, unless you are a good mechanic or a FAST learner? Look at the bikes they are racing, especially the ones in the same class that you will be competing in. Talk to the riders or their support crew, most are more than happy to chat about this sport or offer advice to newcomers. You are sure to feel the atmosphere generated at a race meeting. I must admit that your first visit to a race meeting can feel a little intimidating, but don't be put off, we are a great bunch really, we enjoy this sport and the socialising that goes with it, if in doubt visit the pits on the second day of a two day meeting and count the hangovers!! Don't fancy the cut and thrust of racing but still want to ride Moto cross, then ride the MX practice tracks, but please do not participate in illegal off road riding, no local official practice track, then ask a local landowner, but Please, Please DO NOT ride at your local park or common. Now that you have been bitten by the MX bug you need to decide what class of racing you will be joining. If you are aged between 6 & 17 you will be looking to join the ranks of schoolboy (person) racing. Yes the girls are more than welcome in this sport, and can be very competitive indeed, so boys if you have a girl on the starting line beware she may be just as likely to run you off the track at the first corner as the next guy, they ask for no quarter and certainly won't give any, you have been warned. |
